160 Years of EDELRID: Climbing History Made in Germany

Since its founding in June 1863, EDELRID has evolved from producing strands and cords to becoming a global leader in climbing ropes, mountaineering, and work safety equipment. Over the past 160 years, the company has faced both triumphs and tribulations. A revolutionary moment came with the development of the kernmantle rope, which transformed mountaineering. However, this success was followed by a devastating fire that nearly destroyed the entire production facility. In the 1970s, EDELRID introduced the seat climbing harness, which further advanced the climbing world, only to face another destructive fire shortly after. These alternating disasters and successes have shaped EDELRID into the renowned company it is today.

SAFE DESCENT

EDELRID continues to innovate with products like the SAFE DESCENT, a versatile descender and rescue device equipped with a hoisting function. It is ideal for work at heights and emergency situations in adventure parks and on wind turbines. The SAFE DESCENT is available in standard lengths upon request, with special lengths also possible.
